Summary:
China's fluorochemical imports and exports exhibited mixed trends
in the first nine months of 2024. Fluorspar imports surged to a new high, with
Mongolia as the primary supplier. Hydrofluoric acid imports increased
significantly, while exports declined slightly. Refrigerant exports dominated
with minimal imports, showing mixed monthly results but overall declines in
certain categories. Imports of primary-shaped PTFE declined, while exports
increased. However, imports and exports of other fluorinated polymers increased
both monthly and yearly. Export prices of fluorinated polymers were lower but
more stable than import prices.
1.
Fluorspar Imports and Exports
In the first nine months of 2024, China's fluorspar imports reached a new high,
totaling 906,900 tons, up 39.63% year-on-year. Mongolia was the main supplier,
accounting for 88.08% of the total imports. In September 2024, imports of
fluorspar with a content of ≤97% were 113,000 tons, up 3.1% year-on-year, while
exports were 21,000 tons, up 19.3% year-on-year. Imports of fluorspar with a
content of >97% were 2,000 tons, up 561.8% year-on-year, and exports were
7,000 tons, down 21.8% year-on-year.
2. Hydrofluoric Acid Imports and Exports
China's imports of anhydrous hydrofluoric acid were minimal in September 2024,
totaling 71.7 tons, up 306.7% year-on-year, while exports were 19,000 tons,
down 2.3% year-on-year. Imports of electronic-grade hydrofluoric acid were
839.9 tons, up 31.0% year-on-year, and exports were 1,389.1 tons, down 64.8%
year-on-year.
3. Refrigerant Imports and Exports
China's refrigerant exports dominate, with minimal imports. In September 2024,
exports of HCFC-22, HFC-32, HFC-134a, and a combination of HFC-125 and HFC-143a
showed mixed results, with some decreasing and some increasing in comparison to
the previous month. Overall, from January to September 2024, exports of
HCFC-22, HFC-125/143a, and HFC-134a decreased year-on-year, while exports of
HFC-32 increased. Prices for HCFC-22 and HFC-32 have been rising since June
2024.
4. Fluorinated Polymer Imports and Exports
In September 2024, imports of primary-shaped polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)
were 639.5 tons, down 19.35% month-on-month and 13.3% year-on-year, while
exports were 2,586 tons, down 10.71% month-on-month but up 8.4% year-on-year.
For the first nine months of 2024, imports of primary-shaped PTFE were down
8.1% year-on-year, while exports were up 14.7% year-on-year. Additionally, imports
and exports of other fluorinated polymers increased in September 2024 and for
the first nine months of the year, with imports up 18.8% and 83.4%
respectively, and exports up 14.1% and 0.7% respectively. The export prices of
fluorinated polymers were lower but more stable than the import prices.
